Kelly Coble

Dr. Kelly Coble received a Bachelor of Arts in German and philosophy at California State University, Chico in 1991 and a doctorate in philosophy at DePaul University in 1999. Kelly wrote a doctoral dissertation in Berlin, Germany examining the confluence of German idealist and materialist ideas in early 20th-century European thought. Coble taught at the American University in Cairo, Egypt from 1998 to 2002 and taught at Al-Akhawayn University in Morocco on a Fulbright Scholarship from 2009 to 2010. He has published articles on Kant, Schelling, Nietzsche, Hermann Cohen and Robert Musil. His research interests include the bearing of the experimental sciences on our understanding of the origin of moral beliefs, the therapeutic resources of philosophy and several issues in global ethics. Kelly is, with three other BW professors, a member of Front Porch, a string band that performs traditional and bluegrass music on campus and in the area.
